I noticed that there is little "With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child" fanart, so here is my contribution.
It's based on something that actually happened to me. There was this place I went to in high school called "The Turorial Base" where disabled people would gather. One day I had a haircut that was unlike anything I had before, and I was looking at myself in a full-length mirror, when I noticed one autistic girl staring. I turned to her, and she hugged the mirror! Heh, I guess she wasn't admiring me.
I really reccomend reading "With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child. It's definatly one of the more upbeat stories I am reading, but I hear it's very accurate. I can't really judge, I only knew one autistic person.
I planned for this to be a comic, but the comic version needed too much text, so I stuffed as many clues as I could think of into this and I hope for the best. I tried to get the digital toning to work, but the lines got too fuzzy for me to work on when I got the image small enough to avoid that moirč effect. Also, Sachiko (who is a rather mumsy person, isn't she?) is hard to draw. I had to make a few sketches of her, and I still don't think I got her right. Keiko Tobe is quite talented. It's interesting to see Hikaru grow up.
